The LDL Story Update 2007
For many of you who may not know or remember the story of LDL EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOUNDTION, we wanted to remind you of our origin, purpose and work.
In the fall of 1992, three teachers in Glen Rose Schools (Dorothy Gibbs, Leta Yocham and Liz Sherrell) realized an opportunity and possibility of establishing a private operating foundation to help provide funding for special educational needs for the district. We included health, and environmental issues to make a broader interest base to make more funding sources available. Application was made to the IRS, and approval as a 501 © 3 organization was received in February 1993.
Since that time, LDL has contributed $127,179 to people in need of assistance for health costs – eye exams, medications, doctors visits, cancer patients and families with unusual needs not covered by insurance. The annual Health Fair sponsored by Glen Rose medical Center and LDL has become a major wellness project for Somervell County citizens.
LDL has contributed $167,391 for educational needs for students. This includes special materials and supplies for the district and assistance to students needing financial help with further education.
LDL has contributed $80,715 to Youth and community projects such as the Youth Fair, Baseball groups, Mark #1 camps, Summer Lunch Program, Boy Scouts and other civic groups.
LDL is the “Friends” group fir Dinosaur Valley State Park. The Park Store building was given to LDL in 1993 by TU. LDL, in turn, donated the building to the State Park to be used as classrooms and a souvenir shop. The Park Store has been a profit center with funds dedicated to park operation and improvements. The store has provided jobs to many high school students. Approximately $215,000 has been given to the park, including a handicapped accessible river ecology trail and many wayside exhibits. LDL has purchased equipment, helped hire special interpreters and extra park workers for weekends and summers.
LDL is funded by private donations, memorials, grants and payroll deduction gifts from GRISD employees. Every dollar given to LDL goes directly to needs in our community. LDL had no administrative expenses.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your gifts and support of LDL Educational Resources Foundation over the past 14 years. YOU have made it possible for many to benefit from LDL’s services. |
